Wen Zhang

Wen (they/she) is a Bay Area native who began tutoring and teaching in high school and hasn't stopped since. At UC Berkeley, they earned their BA in English with Highest Distinction in General Scholarship while serving as a Teaching Assistant for Data 8, Foundations of Data Science. As such, Wen teaches both English and Mathematics at SIL. They are always eager to combine their background in both the humanities and STEM to best serve each student.

Wen chooses to lead with empathy and understanding, and their goal as an educator is always to empower. Beyond imparting knowledge and teaching skills, Wen aims to create environments in which each student can build their confidence through trial, error, and courage in the face of "failure." To Wen, each error is a gift that shows an individual how to grow and, ultimately, thrive beyond the classroom.

Before teaching at SIL, Wen worked as an editor at Tapas Entertainment's original webcomics division, Studio Tapas, where they collaborated closely with independent and underrepresented creators to produce and publish comics such as Hungry Heart and Pandora's Devils. They can also be found practicing their Mandarin, training Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and playing fetch with their family's Samoyed.
