Heather Schriefer
Heather was born and raised in Asheville, NC. She attended North Carolina State University and graduated with a BS in Environmental Science and minors in Applied Ecology, Plant Biology, and Biological Sciences. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a MS in Natural Resources and is pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Technology. She has pursued projects involving feral cats in Portland, OR, species of Magnolia in Raleigh, NC, and most recently is working on reviewing a virtual lab resource. She is particularly interested in plant development and ecology amidst a changing climate as well as urban wildlife behavior in terms of expansion and urban sprawl.
Heather strives to make science meaningful and enjoyable for all students, and encourages creative thinking and asking questions. She has taught a variety of science courses in Bay Area private middle and high schools, and has led field trips off campus to better understand the interactions in the natural world around us.Outside of the classroom, Heather can be found running the next half marathon, bartending most weekends, and exploring local and parks with her two dogs.
